The 2019 MotoE World Cup, otherwise officially known as the 2019 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, is the inaugural season of the all electric FIM MotoE World Cup, staged between 7 July and 17 November 2019.[1] The season, which was held in support of the MotoGP World Championship, would see eighteen riders race a set of identical motorcycles produced by the Energica Motorcycle Company across six rounds.[2][3]
The 2019 season was set to get underway on the 5 May, although a major fire at the end of the final pre-season test resulted in all of the series' Energica Ego Corsa bikes being destroyed.[4] A revised calendar was released shortly after the fire, with the first round staged at the Sachsenring in Germany on the 7 July 2019.[1]
Background[]
Dorna Sports SL, the commercial rights holders for the MotoGP Championship, announced their intentions to stage an all electric bike racing series on the 6 February 2018.[3] The new creation, dubbed the FIM MotoE World Cup, immediately attracted a title sponsor in the form of Enel, with Italian bike constructor Energica securing a deal to supply the series.[3][2] Dorna and the FIM also decided that the new series would use identical bikes, with privateer teams from MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 all incentivised to take part.[3]
