The 2020 Berlin eTrophy Race 6, otherwise known as the 2020 Berlin Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series Race 6, was the ninth and penultimate round of the 2019/20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series, staged at the Tempelhofer Park circuit in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany, on 12 August 2020.[1] The race would see Simon Evans secure victory, as title rival and Championship leader Sérgio Jimenez required the aid of team orders to pass teammate Cacá Bueno.[2]
Qualifying had see Bueno emerge with pole position as the eTrophy sampled the modified Tempelhofring circuit, beating Evans by 0.136s.[3] Behind, Jimenez would line-up in third ahead of Alice Powell, Pro-Am Champion Fahad Algosaibi again secured pole in the sub-class, while Guest drivers Jessica Hawkins and Sven Förster would share the sixth and final row.[3]
The start of the race saw Bueno ease into the lead, while behind Evans would instantly move across to deny Jimenez the inside line into the sweeping first corner.[2] Behind it was largely grid order for the rest of the field, with Algosaibi resisting the attempts of Adalberto Baptista to pass for the lead in Pro-Am.[2]
The early laps saw Bueno, Evans and Jimenez break away at the head of the field, while at the back Hawkins and Förster duelled over eleventh in the battle of the Guest cars.[2] Up ahead of them, meanwhile, Takuma Aoki engaged Algosaibi and Baptista in a three way fight, with the three exchanging positions rapidly as Attack Mode came into play.[2]
Aoki eventually overcame the two Pro-Am leaders as, up ahead, Bueno and Evans would break clear of Jimenez, who would be the first of the leaders to arm AM.[2] Bueno went next but missed the markers, meaning he not only failed to activate the boost, but also slipped behind Evans and lost the lead.[2]
Bueno would get back past after finally arming AM, although in the stagger it was Evans who would use his AM after Bueno, meaning he had a power advantage in the closing stages.[2] Evans duly used the boost to drive right around the outside of Bueno down the start/finish straight to reclaim the lead for himself, before easing clear over the remaining minutes.[2]
With that the race was run, with Evans sweeping across the line to secure victory, while Bueno backed off to allow teammate Jimenez to catch and ultimately pass for second.[2] Behind came Nick Foster and Powell, while Paul Spooner battled past Baptista, Aoki and Algosaibi to head the Pro-Am podium in seventh overall.[2] In the battle of the Guest drivers, meanwhile, it was Hawkins who emerged on top, ten seconds clear of Förster as they finished at the back of the field.[2]
Background[]
After a three-day wait the 2019/20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series field would see the revised Tempelhofring circuit for the first time.[1] The modifications would be focused entirely in the middle sector of the circuit, with a new series of corners extending the circuit by a couple hundred metres.[4] Likewise, there were modifications made to a certain section of the entry list, with the two Guest drivers for the finale unveiled as Jessica Hawkins and Sven Förster.[5]
Battled Progress[]
Sérgio Jimenez remained in the lead of the Pro Championship as the middle phase of the Berlin finale came to a close, with the Brazilian racer holding 136 points to his name. However, the Brazilian's lead had been reduced to just eight points after Simon Evans' latest victory, with those two now the only drivers who could claim the crown. Behind Cacá Bueno would look to secure third with a race to spare ahead of Alice Powell, while Nick Foster rounded out the top five.
In the Pro-Am Championship, meanwhile, the title fight was already over, with Fahad Algosaibi the Champion with a huge tally of 139 points after eight races, and one of only two drivers to have won in Pro-Am all season. Behind, Adalberto Baptista would spend the final two races fighting Paul Spooner for the runner-up spot, with those two now guaranteed top three finishes as the only other active Pro-Am entries in Berlin.

Milestones[]
- Fifth and final victory for Simon Evans.
- Fifth and final win for Team Asia New Zealand as an entrant.
- Maiden and only Pro-Am victory for Paul Spooner
- Fourteenth and final Pro-Am win for Saudi Racing as an entrant.
Standings[]
Victory for Simon Evans in the penultimate race would setup a duel for the title in the final race, with the New Zealander just three points behind Championship leader Sérgio Jimenez. Various permutations could hand either driver the crown, although should both finish the final race in the top four, then the higher placed driver would take the title. Behind, meanwhile, Cacá Bueno had already secured third, while Alice Powell was set to finish fourth ahead of Nick Foster.
In the Pro-Am Championship Fahad Algosaibi had already wrapped up the title, with the Saudi Arabian ace having extended his lead to 66 points with a race to go. Behind Paul Spooner had moved to within two points of Adalberto Baptista in the fight for second, meaning whomever finished the final race ahead of the other would secure the runner-up spot in the Pro-Am field.
