The 2023/24 Formula E World Championship, officially known as the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is set to be the tenth season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and tenth season of top level, all-electric, single-seater motorracing.[1] The provisional calendar for the season was revealed on 20 Jun 2023, and would outline a seventeen race season beginning in Mexico City on 13 January 2024, and ending in London on 21 July 2024.[1]
Background[]
There were not expected to be any major changes or additions to the ABB Formula E World Championship after the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, with the Generation 3 ruleset entering its second season.[1]
Calendar[]
The provision calendar for Season Ten of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was released on 20 June 2023 and would see seventeen rounds, albeit three with venues to be confirmed, listed.[1] The new calendar included one new city to the series, with Tokyo set to make its FE host debut in March 2024 which would hence mean that the Japanese capital became the first Japanese city to host an E-Prix.[1]
Seventeen in Seven Months[]
The season was to open on 13 January 2024 with the 2024 Mexico City E-Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, two and a half months after the planned pre-season test in Valencia, Spain.[1] The series would then head to Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, for its second and third races at the end of January, with those two races set to remain as night races as they had in previous campaigns.[1] Two TBA dates were then listed, one on 10 February and the other on 24 February, before the Series was set to head to Brazil and the São Paulo Street Circuit for the sixth round of the season on 16 March.[1]
Tokyo was to make its FE bow on 30 March 2024 with a circuit around Tokyo Big Sight in the Tokyo Bay area of the city, before the series headed to Europe for an extended spell, beginning on 13 - 14 April with two races in Rome, Italy.[1] The annual trip to the Circuit de Monaco would then be held on 27 April, followed by another double-header in Berlin on 11 - 23 May.[1] The third TBA was then listed on 25 May, followed by the Series' final trip to Asia and the Jakarta E-Prix on 8 June, before FE would head to the US to stage the second Portland E-Prix on 29 June.[1]
The season would then conclude in London, UK, with a double-header on 20 - 21 July 2024 as the Series sought to make London its traditional season-ending host.[1]
Permanent Updates[]
In the build-up to the pre-season test in Valencia an updated and finalised calendar was released for the 2023/24 campaign, and would see several changes to the schedule as the TBA dates were filled and one event dropped.[2] The revised calendar, confirmed at the October FIA World Motor Sport Council Meeting, saw FE confirm at return to mainland China, with the inaugural Shanghai E-Prix set to be held as a double-header on 25 and 26 May 2024 on a reworked Shanghai International Circuit.[2] The other addition to the calendar would be the return on the Hyderabad E-Prix to the calendar on 10 February, having initially been missed off due to concerns about funding, while the Jakarta E-Prix was put on hiatus due to the Indonesian Presidential Elections taking place around the same time in June.[2]
The other significant change was a yet to be confirmed change of venue for the Rome E-Prix, after the FIA and FE ruled that the Generation 3 car had out-grown the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR in the Italian capital, as demonstrated by the huge accident during the 2023 Rome E-Prix I.[2] Permanent circuits Imola and Misano were early contenders to replace the race in Rome, with plans to unveil the new host for the race before the opening round of the season in Mexico City.[2]
In November 2023, it was announced that Misano would host the Italian round of the Championship as a double-header weekend, which was followed by confirmation that Portland would become a double-header round to bring the calendar back up to a record 17 rounds.[3]

Testing[]
The testing schedule for the 2023/24 FE Season was provisionally announced on 20 June 2023, with one pre-season test scheduled at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia Spain on 23 - 27 October 2023.[1] This would be more than two months before the planned start to the season in Mexico City on 13 January 2024, with teams also instructed to run a rookie driver in both of their cars during at least one session during the three days.[1] The series would also host a rookie free practice session ahead of the 2024 Misano E-Prix I, as well as an in-season Rookie Test after the 2024 Berlin E-Prix II, both intended to give more drivers a chance to sample the Gen 3 car.[4]
