The 2023 Jakarta E-Prix II, officially known as the 2023 Gulavit Jakarta E-Prix II, was the eleventh race of the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, held on 4 June 2023 at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit in Ancol, Jakarta, Indonesia.[1] The E-Prix would see Maximilian Günther secure Maserati's maiden FE victory from pole position, which was also the first single-seater triumph for the Italian marque since 1957, after breaking away from main challenger Jake Dennis in the second half of the race.[2]
For the second day in a row in Indonesia it was the Günther show in qualifying, the German racer sweeping to his second successive pole after once again defeating Dennis in the final, albeit by an increased margin of half a second for the second battle of Jakarta.[3] Indeed, there was no stopping Günther on Sunday morning, with the German pilot topping Group B before defeating Stoffel Vandoorne and teammate Edoardo Mortara on his run to the final, while Dennis' path saw him top Group A prior to fending off challenges from Jake Hughes and then Mitch Evans.[3]
Background[]
There were no changes to either the field nor the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit ahead of the second E-Prix of the weekend, although the FIA and Formula E had opted to change the format slightly.[1] Indeed, for Sunday's race teams would be faced with an additional two laps in order to challenge their energy usage, although given the pace of the Saturday race, which had not been energy limited, the increased race distance was not seen as particularly troubling for the majority of the field.[1]
Wehrlein's Rebound[]
Nick Cassidy had retained the Championship lead with his points for seventh place and fastest lap in the first battle of Jakarta, although his advantage had been cut to just two at the head of the hunt. Indeed, long-time leader Pascal Wehrlein had got his title challenge back on track with his third win of the campaign, which had also been his first podium finish since his second win of the season in Diriyah. Jake Dennis had likewise reawoken his title credentials in third, having moved fourteen off the lead, with Jean-Éric Vergne up to fourth ahead of Mitch Evans, those two having slipped back from the main contenders.
In the Teams' Championship it had been another leap-frog scenario for the lead, as Porsche jumped back ahead of Envision Racing to head the pack, overturning a thirteen point deficit to a nine point advantage. Those two were in a class of their own, third placed Jaguar Racing having failed to score to fall 42 points behind, while Avalanche Andretti and DS Penske were level on 137 in fourth and fifth. Elsewhere, Maserati's biggest points haul of the campaign had sent them leaping into seventh, trailing sixth placed McLaren by 31 points, while Mahindra Racing and their customers ABT Cupra had remained at the foot of the table.

Qualifying[]
Qualifying for the 2023 Jakarta E-Prix II would be conducted according to the knockout format, introduced ahead of season eight.[5] The field would be split into two groups of eleven drivers, based on Championship position, with each group then getting ten minutes on track to complete as many laps as they wished at 300 kW.[5] The fastest eight overall would then proceed to the knockout phase, now running at the maximum 350 kW qualifying mode, with the fastest from group A against the fourth fastest from group A and so on, until four drivers were left.[5]
Those four would move on to the Semi-Final, with the winner of A1/A4 taking on the victor of A2/A3, while the triumphant driver of B3/B2 would take on B4/B1's winner.[5] The winners from those duels would then go into the final, with the winner of that duel taking pole, while the runner-up would start from second, before any grid penalties were applied.[5]

Milestones[]
- Fourth victory for Maximilian Günther.
- Maserati MSG Racing secured their maiden victory.
- This was also the first victory for Maserati as a brand/powertrain supplier in Formula E.
Standings[]
It was all change atop the Drivers' Championship as the Series' trip to Jakarta came to a conclusion, with Pascal Wehrlein having restored his status as Championship leader after two strong races, although his advantage was not as it had been earlier during the campaign. Indeed, the German ace would leave Jakarta just a single point clear of closest challenger Jake Dennis, while Nick Cassidy, who had led the Championship on Sunday morning, was just six behind after falling to third. Behind, Mitch Evans was within striking distance in fourth after breaking slightly clear of fifth placed Jean-Éric Vergne, while Maximilian Günther had leapt into the top ten with his first win of the campaign.
In contrast it was status quo atop the Teams' Championship, with Porsche having extended their lead over Envision Racing at the head of the field to 22 points courtesy of their strongest weekend since the trip to Diriyah. Envision themselves were still a relatively comfortable second, but had seen their advantage over suppliers Jaguar Racing to nineteen points, while Avalanche Andretti were catching both Jaguar powered teams in fourth. DS Penske, meanwhile, had held fifth with their sister team Maserati backing them in sixth, while the two Mahindra equipped teams had remained at the foot of the table.
