The 2024/25 Formula E World Championship, officially known as the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to be the eleventh season of the FIA Formula E World Championship and the eleventh season of electric single-seater racing at the highest tier.[1] The season would be a significant one for the Championship with the introduction of the GEN3 Evo as the base chassis for the series, which would introduce motors on the front axle to create All-Wheel-Drive for the first time in FE history, as well as the potential for a 0-60 mph time of 1.82s, the fastest of any FIA accredited single-seater series.[2]
The series would also introduce a Manufacturers' World Championship for the first time, meaning three potential titles were on offer in 2024/25.[3]
Background[]
The summer of 2024 post the 2023/24 season would see teams focus on development of their powertrains for the new GEN3 Evo ruleset, which introduced a heavily revised base car for the series, albeit one based on the Generation 3 design which debuted in 2022/23.[2]
Calendar[]
The calendar for FE's eleventh campaign was revealed in June 2024 and would see the series again attempt to host a series record seventeen races across eleven host cities, while testing was confirmed to take place in Valencia, Spain.[1] Furthermore, the Series would return to running the season across two calendar years for the first time since the 2019/20 season, although for the first time FE did acknowledge it was moving away from its premise of street circuit based racing to more permanent circuits instead.[1]
The season was set to open in São Paulo, Brazil on 7 December 2024, before heading to Mexico City on 11 January 2025 for its second battle of the campaign.[1] The first double-header of the season was then set for 14-15 February 2025 in Saudi Arabia, initially expected to be the annual Diriyah, before a race yet to be confirmed planned for 8 March, although the series was confident that a venue would be announced at the World Motorsport Council Meeting in the autumn of 2024.[1] The series would then return to the Miami for the first time in almost a decade for the second ever Miami E-Prix, before the famed Circuit de Monaco hosted its first FE double header on 3-4 May 2025.[1]
Likewise, for the eleventh FE season the Tokyo E-Prix would become a double header when it was staged on 17 - 18 May, before the series headed to China for a double-headed Shanghai E-Prix on 31 May - 1 June.[1] The season's Asian leg was then to be completed on 21 June at the Jakarta E-Prix, returning after a year off the calendar due to elections in 2024, before the season headed to Europe for its final leg, opening with the double headed Berlin E-Prix on 12 - 13 July.[1] The season would then conclude on 26 - 27 July in what was becoming the traditional season-finale city of London, in what was expected to be the final races at the ExCeL E-Prix Circuit.[1]
Updating Details[]
The first revision to the calendar was made in early September, with the Diriyah E-Prix in Saudi Arabia officially replaced by the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix, set to be held on a modified version of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit used by Formula One.[4] The series would continue to explore options for the TBA round on 8 March 2025, although at the World Motorsport Council meeting in October 2024 the series reached its deadline and had to concede that the season would be reduced to sixteen races.[5]
Schedule[]
The full calendar for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is outlined below:
Testing[]
Pre-season testing for the 2024/25 FIA Formula E World Championship was, as with previous seasons since 2019, scheduled to take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, with a four-day test planned for 4 - 7 November 2024.[1] It would be the only pre-season collective test for the series, despite the introduction of a revised car ahead of the eleventh FE campaign.[1] There would also be a purpose made session exclusively for female drivers, with teams fielding at least one woman driver in the session, which would be scheduled fro 7 November.[1]
The week before the Valencia test highly disruptive and destructive storm would strike Valencia, causing devestation to the local area and damaging part of the circuit.[7] As a result of the damage, and not wishing to burden the emergency services further by holding a major test at the circuit which itself required repair, FE would move the pre-season test to the Circuito del Jarama in San Sebastián, moving the test back by a day to enable setup of the circuit.[7]
The testing schedule for the 2024/25 FIA Formula E World Championship is outlined below:

Entrants[]
There would be several major changes ahead of Season 11, with the arrival of Lola Cars and Yamaha as a joint manufacturer programme seeing them partner with ABT Sportsline for the season, forming the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team.[8] It was later revealed that investment group The Forest Road Company had obtained the ERT Formula E Team, and would rebrand the squad as the Kiro Race Co., competing under an American licence and using an updated Generation 3 powertrain developed by Porsche, rather than use a full Gen 3 Evo design.[9]

Season Report[]
Rules and Regulations[]
There were some sporting and technical changes for the eleventh FE campaign, with the series introducing both an updated car for the series and a new FIA accredited World Championship title for manufacturers, which would have its own scoring rules.[2][3]
Technical[]
![Gen3 Evo](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/formula-e/images/5/5c/Gen3_Evo.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/280?cb=20240826222700)
The Spark GEN3 Evo debuted in season eleven.
For 2024/25 Formula E had a revised base car for the season, the GEN3 Evo developed by Spark Racing Technologies which was based heavily on the Generation 3 design which had debuted in 2022/23.[2] The new car introduced the ability for drivers to deploy energy from the front axle (FPK), transforming the car to All-Wheel-Drive from the more traditional RWD format previously used by the series, although this was set to be restricted to certain scenarios.[2][3] The performance otherwise was expected to increase by 2% on the previous generation of car without substantial changes to the other aspects of the powertrain, with revisions to the aero and to the tyres supplied by Hankook also set to aid performance and sustainability.[2]
Power Plays[]
The GEN3 Evo saw FE and the FIA relent to pressure from some manufacturers to add motors on the front axle capable of deploying power as well as regenerating it, the latter element having been introduced with the Generation 3 concept to increase energy yield.[2] This additional deployment was expected to enable the GEN3 Evo to achive a 0-60 mph time of 1.82s (0-100 km/h in 1.86s) which would be substantially faster than the original Generation 3 car, and 30% faster than a Formula One car.[2] This was attributable to making the car All-Wheel-Drive, although such was the performance increase that the rulebook was altered to only allow deployment from the front axle during qualifying, Attack Mode and at the start of the race.[3]
The FPK as it was dubbed was developed by Atieva and would be universal to each car, meaning manufacturers would have to integrate that into their powertrain designs.[48]
The addition of the front powertrain element had also been factored into wider efficiency revisions for the standardised parts of the powertrain, which were reported to yield an additional 2% of performance when the front powertrain was not in use.[2] This included a planned efficiency of 95% from the powertrain, while the regenerative braking element of the powertrain remained at 600kW, while output remained fixed at 300kW in race mode and 350kW in Attach Mode.[2]
Body Mods and Tyre Desires[]
Also added with the GEN3 Evo update was a revised bodywork package for the Generation 3 design, which was mainly focused on giving the Gen 3 car a more robust design after complaints about fragility during its first two seasons.[2] The majority of this work focused on adapting the front wing, which resembled the front wing design from the Spark-Renault SRT 01E after it was updated ahead of the 2016/17 season, with the aim of allowing more grace in minor body contact and greater aerodynamic efficency.[2] A small winglet was also added in-front of each rear wheel to help deflect air of the rear wheels and hence further reduce drag which had been a major complaint about the Generation 3 design.[48]
Elsewhere, tyre supplier Hankook had developed a softer version of its iON tyres which were mandated by the series, and had reported a 5%-10% performance gain, as well as an increase to 35% of recycyled and sustainable materials within the tyres.[2] It was hoped that the increased grip would improve times overall and particularly enhance drivability for the GEN3 Evo, after complaints from several drivers about grip and traction on the original specification of tyres.[48]
FE CEO Jeff Dodds also revealed that the series had considered adding headlights to the design to allow some signature of manufacturer styling to the design, although this was ultimately rejected to be considered for the Generation 4 ruleset.[48]
Sporting[]
For 2024/25 the Formula E would introduce the FIA approved ABB Formula E World Championship for Manufacturers for the first time, with seven registered manufacturers for the inaugural season of the title.[3] This came after a successful introduction for the Manufacturers' Trophy in 2023/24 which was awarded to Jaguar by four points from Porsche, but without FIA World Championship status.[3] The addition of a Manufacturers' World Championship title was aimed at increasing the appeal of FE to global manufacturers, and would be akin to the Manufacturers' title in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Constructors' Championship in Formula One.
Manufacturer Machinations[]
To calculate the points scored for each manufacturer at each race, the two highest finishing cars for each manufacturer would be scored at each race, in order to balance out those manufacturers with customer teams against those without.[3] As a result if a third manufacturers' car was ahead of another manufacturer, that car would be ignored and the car of the next manufacturer would be scored next.[3] Further, for the purpose of scoring the two Stellantis brands of DS and Maserati would be grouped together under an entry known as STELLANTIS for the title.[3]
Charging Dilemas=[]
The desire to introduce Attack Charge, essentially in-race fast charging, into Formula E had remained ahead of the 2024/25 season, although the programme for introducing it had entered its third season without appearing as a set part of the entire season rulebook.[2]
