The Diriyah Street Circuit is a temporary racing circuit used to host the Ad Diriyah E-Prix, a round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.[1] The circuit, which is also known as the Riyadh Street Circuit or Ad Diriyah Street Circuit, was established in 2018 for the inaugural Ad Diriyah E-Prix.[2]

In 2021 the Diriyah Street Circuit, made history as the first venue in FE history to hold both a night race, and a World Championship race.[3]

Formula E History

The Ad Diriyah E-Prix was established in May 2018, after a ten year deal was reached between the Saudi Arabian government and Formula E Holdings to host an E-Prix.[2] While the original announcement suggested that the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh would be the host city, the final location of the new race was revealed to be in Ad Diriyah, a district within Riyadh's boundaries.[4] Furthermore, a sponsor for the race was found in the form of SAUDIA, with an initial design of the Ad Diriyah Street Circuit revealed on 25 September 2018.[5][6]

Circuit History

The original circuit revealed in September 2018 was measured at 2.847 km (1.760 mi) in length, with a series of flowing corners the major feature.[5] The overall layout was retained although the overall circuit length reduced once the final track layout was revealed, measuring 2.495 km (1.550 mi).[4] Further revisions were made ahead of the inaugural 2018 Ad Diriyah E-Prix, with the addition of an Attack Mode activation zone at the exit of turn seventeen.[4]

Changes were made to the circuit for the 2019 visit, with several corners re-profiled and the Attack Mode activation point moved to the turn 18/19 chicane.[7]
