Alex Fontana, born 2 August 1992, is a Swiss racing driver and former entrant in the FIA Formula E Championship, who competed for the Trulli Formula E Team alongside Jarno Trulli at the Season finale for the 2014/15 season.[1] Called up in place of Vitantonio Liuzzi, Fontana drove the Spark-Renault SRT_01E for the first time in London, but failed to score any points.[2]

Background[]

A GP3 racer at present, Fontana's career started at a young age in karting, with the Swiss driver progressing through the ranks steadily as he got older.[1] Still a youngster, Fontana claimed the Formula 3 Euro Cup in 2011, before moving into GP3.[1] A Formula Two race winner in 2012, Fontana was signed up to the Lotus Young Driver Programme, getting full support in GP3, and a few drives in Formula Renault 3.5.[1]

Formula E History[]

Fontana's first involvement in Formula E came when the Trulli Formula E Team called him into the team in place of Vitantonio Liuzzi for the London double header.[2] His first taste of the Spark-Renault SRT_01E came in practice for the 2015 London ePrix I, with the race itself ending with a disappointing retirement.[3] He improved in the Sunday race (the Second London ePrix), taking fourteenth having started in ninth.[4]

Fontana's service were not then called upon for season two, leaving the Swiss racer to resume his single seater career elsewhere.
