The Andretti ATEC-01 was an all-electric, single-seater racing car developed by Andretti Technologies to compete in the 2015/16 FIA Formula E Championship with the Amlin Andretti team.[1] The design, which was the first developed by the American team with technical partner TE Connectivity, would face numerous issues including software and battery failures during testing, before ultimately being withdrawn from competition during the pre-season 2015 Donington Test and hence would never compete in an ePrix.[2]

Competitive History[]

The ATEC-01 would never compete in an ePrix, having been withdrawn from competition at the 2015 Donington Test after a raft of issues that prevented Simona de Silvestro and Robin Frijns completing any major running across four of the six test days.[2]

Development History[]

The ATEC-01 was the first product developed by Andretti Technologies, and would begin testing in early 2015 with TE Connectivity having helped to design the powertrain and eMotor, which was based largely on the concept of the original Spark-Renault SRT_01E.[1] Using a four-speed gearbox, the ATEC-01 would have a low-key set of private tests, before enduring a heavily compromised public debut at the 2015 Donington Test, where a failure on the eMotor prevented any running at all on the first day.[3] The second and third day saw software failures blight the car, before a battery failure on the fourth day meant that the car only completed a handful of installation laps, although optimisim about that running was then dashed by a total failure of the powertrain on the fifth day.[4]

As a result of that failure Andretti would opt to drop the ATEC-01 design ahead of the new season, converting their cars back to the original SRT 01E design for the final day of the test and the rest of the 2015/16 season, while the ATEC-01 was used as a testbed for their next powertrain, the Andretti ATEC-02.[4]
