The Andretti ATEC-02 was an all-electric, single-seater, racing car design developed by Andretti Technologies to compete in the 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship with MS Amlin Andretti.[1] The first Andretti design to make an ePrix appearance after the total failure of the ATEC-01, the ATEC-02 would initially look to be a competitive car, only for a mixed campaign leave it rarely threatening the points and hence only scoring six times across twelve races.[2]

The ATEC-02 would also be the first car to feature design input from BMW after they signed a deal to enter the series as a full manufacturer in 2018/19, and would alternately be known as the TE Connectivity ATEC-002.[3][4]

Competitive History[]

Development History[]

Having been forced to abandon their first FE design, Andretti Technologies would use the lessons learned from the failed ATEC-01 to inform its next development path.[5] As a result, Andretti would opt to buy their eMotors and inverters from Magneti Marelli, the same base design being used by Mahindra Racing and Dragon Racing for their M3Electro and 701-EV designs respectively, but would opt for a different setup path, mounting the eMotor longitudinally, and mounting it to a three speed gearbox, all within an aluminium casing.[5] Technical partner TE Connectivity would then develop the electronic control systems for the powertrain, while BMW would provide expertise in optimisation as they began researching the development of their first powertrain, due at the start of the 2018/19 season.[3]

Testing on-track of the design would be much more fruitful than its predecessor, with no major issues reported during the 2016 Donington Test.[1]
