The Audi e-tron FE07 is an all-electric, single-seater, race car and powertrain, constructed by Audi and raced by Envision Racing in the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E Championship as a customer team.[1] Previously raced by the factory Audi team ABT Sportsline, the e-tron FE07 would be the last powertrain built by Audi, before they withdrew from FE at the end of the 2020/21 season.[2]
Competitive History[]
The Audi e-tron FE07 made its competitive debut at the 2020/21 season opening E-Prix, the 2021 Diriyah E-Prix I, where a quartet of e-tron FE07s were entered by the factory Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team and their customers Envision Virgin Racing.[3] Of that quartet it was was the #33 Audi run e-tron FE07 in the hands of René Rast that proved the most competitive, the German racer battling to fourth and setting the fastest lap on the car's debut.[4]
Audi's Last Stand: 2020/21[]
Envision Encore: 2021/22[]
Despite Audi withdrawing as a manufacturer at the end of the 2020/21 season, the e-tron FE07 would still appear during the 2021/22 World Championship, as Envision Racing continued to field the car for the final season of the Generation 2 era.[1]
Development History[]
The e-Tron FE07 would be heavily based on the previous Audi e-tron FE06, albeit with a brand new MGU design named the Audi MGU05, which would form the foundation of the e-tron FE07's powertrain, while the car used the same base chassis as before, the spec-Spark SRT05e.[5] The inverter had also been lightened to under 35 kg, while also having been refined to be more than 97% efficient regardless of the conditions, with the rest of the powertrain stated to have a 95% efficiency rating.[5] The powertrain was also designed, as with other Audi powertrains since the e-tron FE04, in conjunction with Schaeffler, while ABT Sportsline handled all of the testing of the new car before it was homologated.[5]
