The DS E-Tense FE25, also known as the Maserati Tipo Folgore, is an all electric, single-seater racing car developed by DS Automobiles to compete in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with DS Penske and Maserati MSG Racing.[1] Based on the Gen 3 Evo ruleset which was introduced at the start of the eleventh FE season, the E-Tense FE25 was tasked with returning DS and its fellow Stellantis brand Maserati back to the front of the Championship.[1]
Competitive History[]
The DS E-Tense FE25 made its race debut at the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix at the start of the 2024/25 season, where four examples, two in Maserati colours, would follow its predecessor, the FE23's trait of strong one-lap pace, with Maximilian Günther almost getting into the pole position shootout for the seaosn opener.[2] Race pace would not reflect this however, with three of the four cars running in the midfield for most of the race, while Jake Hughes was removed early on in an accident midway around the second lap.[2] More promise was shown in Mexico City, where all four cars finished in the top ten, before Günther claimed a maximum score in the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix I, where the FE25 benefitted from the additional function of Pit Boost, an in-race recharge system, to claim an impressive maiden victory for the new car on the final lap.[3]
Development History[]
The FE25 began development in mid-2023, with DS subsequently beginning on-track running in early 2024 after the Gen 3 Evo ruleset was finalised, with Jean-Éric Vergne leading the development programme on the driving front with additional test running from Nicolas Pino as the race approached race ready status at the end of 2024.[4] The car made its public debut at the 2024 Jarama Test, with the car completely developed in-house by DS Performance with a dual motor system and a single-speed gearbox, with a pair of sister cars also re-badged as Maserati Tipo Folgores for the Maserati MSG Racing effort alongside the factory DS Penske operation.[1][5]
