The DS Virgin DSV-02 was an all-electric, single-seater, racing car developed by DS Performance to compete in the 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship with the factory supported DS Virgin Racing team.[1] A vastly different design compared to its predecessor, the DS Virgin DSV-01, the DSV-02 would prove to be a race winning car, collecting two victories in the hands of Sam Bird, although the car would ultimately fail to deliver DS and Virgin a Championship crown.

Competitive History[]

Development History[]

After finding its DSV-01 design effective but rather heavy, courtesy of its two pancake emotors, DS decided on a more conventional path for the DSV-02, returning to the single emotor format used by the majority of the field.[2] This motor was mounted transversely and with a two-speed gearbox mounted to it to give optimal conversion of energy into performance, while the inverter was moved inside the motor casing due to a reduction in its size and weight.[2] DS were also able to scultp their casings in carbon fibre for the first time, greatly cutting the weight on the entire unit, while the rear-suspension was re-profiled to account for the different powertrain concept, and was considered a lot stiffer than its predecessor.[3]
