David Beckmann (born 27 April 2000 in Iserlohn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) is a German racing driver, who serves as a test/reserve driver for Andretti Formula E in the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A former pilot in the FIA Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2 Championships, Beckmann joined Andretti as their main reserve for the 2021/22 season, and would also secure a development role for the 2022/23 campaign.[1]
Background[]
Beckmann began his career in karting, racing in various categories in his native Germany and Europe from 2008 until the end of the 2014 season.[2] In 2015 Beckmann stepped up into single-seaters, signing up to complete a duel campaign in the ADAC and Italian F4 Championships.[2] Driving for his local team Mücke Motorsport, Beckmann went on to claim fourth in Italian F4 with three wins, while claiming one win in ADAC F4 en-route to fifth.[2]
F3 and Beyond: 2016 - 2021[]
2016 saw Beckmann graduate into Formula 3, with the German youth remaining with Mücke Motorsport as they moved him into the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.[2] Finishing fifteenth, as well as appearances in the Masters and Macau Grand Prix, Beckmann would secure another season of F3 in 2017.[2] Finishing sixteenth, Beckmann would leave European F3 to join the GP3 Series for 2018, with the German youth going on to claim three victories after a mid-season team swap, finishing fifth in the championship.[2]
Beckmann remained in GP3 after its merger with European F3, and was deemed to be one of the favourites for the inaugural FIA Formula 3 Championship.[2] However, a difficult season saw Beckmann slide to fourteenth in the table without threatening the podium, leading him to move to Trident Racing for 2020.[2] The change in teams would work somewhat for Beckmann, with the German youth scoring two victories en-route to sixth in the championship.[2] Beckmann duly moved up to the FIA Formula 2 Championship for 2021 with Charouz Racing System, claiming two podiums before being dropped mid-season and moving temporarily to Campos Racing, and would ultimately finished in fifteenth in the Championship.[2]
Formula E History[]
Beckmann was announced as a test/reserve driver for Avalanche Andretti during the 2021/22 ABB Formula E World Championship partway through the season, and would serve as their main test/reserve driver as well as a development driver for their 2022/23 preparations.[1]
