Fahad Algosaibi (born 2 August 1993) is a Saudi Arabian racing driver, who was the 2019/20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series Champion in the Pro-Am class.[1][2] A driver for Saudi Racing in his only eTrophy campaign, Algosaibi would secure six straight eTrophy victories en-route to the title, and would only fail to finish on the podium once.[2]
Background[]
After starting his racing career in karting, Algosaibi would enter his first single-seater series in 2009, taking part in the Formula BMW Pacific.[3] The Saudi Arabian racer would then spend the winter in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, claiming one win and sixth in the Championship, which earned him a couple of appearances in the Porsche Supercup in 2010.[3] Another winter in the Cup Challenge Middle East saw Algosaibi finish third, before the Saudi Arabian racer ran out of funds to compete in any series in 2012.[3]
The following seasons saw Algosaibi secure drives in the Cup Challenge Middle East whenever he could, although the Saudi Arabian racer would notably score a podium in the 997 class at the 24H Dubai.[3] The 2017/18 Cup Challenge Middle East proved to be Algosaibi's last campaign in a notable series, with the Saudi Arabian racer not racing again until 2019.[3]
eTrophy History[]
After almost a year and a half out of motorsport Algosaibi secured a seat in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series, with Saudi Racing signing their compatriot for the 2019/20 season.[1] Algosaibi made his debut in the Pro-Am class at the season opening 2019 Diriyah eTrophy Race 1, and would finish second behind a dominant Yaqi Zhang in the sub-class.[4] The second race in Diriyah would be a similar story for Algosaibi, with the Saudi Arabian racer separated from Zhang at the hed of the Pro-Am field by two other cars.[5]
Podium Galore: 2019/20[]
Algosaibi's fortune's changed at the 2020 Mexico City eTrophy Race however, for Zhang would not race in Mexico as China Racing upgraded one of their entries to the Pro class.[6] As a result Algosaibi would run to a dominant Pro-Am victory on the updated circuit, and would only just miss out on finishing on the overall podium to Guest driver Mario Domínguez.[6] A six month pause would then follow in the eTrophy campaign, as the Covid-19 Pandemic ravaged the schedule.[7]
When the season reconvened in Berlin on 5 August the Pro-Am Championship picture had drastically changed, with Algosaibi one of only three entries in the class for the planned seven race finale.[7] Algosaibi duly opened the Berlin blitz with victory in Pro-Am in the first race from pole, a feat he would repeat a day later in the second race.[8] Pole and victory would then follow for Algosaibi in Pro-Am for the next three races around the anti-clockwise Tempelhofring, with victory in the fifth race securing the Saudi Arabian racer the crown.[9]
With the title already secured Algosaibi would spend the final two races trying to fight with Pro and Guest entries, notably getting into an on-track tussle with Sven Förster and Jessica Hawkins in the penultimate race.[10] After the final race Algosaibi would end his only eTrophy campaign as the Pro-Am Champion, having scored 171 points across the season.[2]
