The Forestal Park Circuit, alternately known as the Santiago Street Circuit, is a temporary street circuit in Santiago, Chile, that hosted the Santiago E-Prix in 2018 as a round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.[1] Established around the Parque Forestal Ciudad de Santiago on the Mapocho River, the Forestal Park Circuit would only host one E-Prix, before the Santiago race moved to the Parque O'Higgins Circuit a few miles away.[2]
Formula E History[]
The Santiago E-Prix was first proposed as a round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship ahead of the 2017/18 season, with city officials signing a deal with Formula E Holdings in October 2017.[1] The Parque Forestal Ciudad de Santiago was immediately identified as the location of the inaugural 2018 Santiago E-Prix, with a 2.462 km (1.529 mi) circuit carved out around the Park.[1]
Circuit History[]
The Forestal Park Circuit hosted its first E-Prix on 3 February 2018, which saw Jean-Éric Vergne claim victory after an epic battle with teammate André Lotterer.[3] However, while the Santiago E-Prix was retained for the 2018/19 season, the organisers opted to move the race to Parque O'Higgins, which had more off-road access than the Forestal Park Circuit.[2]
Circuit Layout[]
The lap begins with a 90° right hander, cutting across the Mapocho River before a left hand bend on the opposite bank of the river.[1] The drivers then loop around the Baquedano Square, entering a gentle curve leading into a hairpin turn six, which carries the cars back along the same curve.[1] Another 90° left hander moves the drivers to the entrance of the Forestal Park, with the pit entrance found in the entry to turn eight.[1]
Turn eight itself carries the field along the entry road to the Park, with turn nine following to lead the cars into the Park itself.[1] A short blast cuts through the middle of the Park before the field turn left onto the Cardenal Jose Maria Caro, featuring another short blast into turn eleven and the pit-exit.[1] Turn eleven itself sees the field cross the Mapocho for a second time, before the tight right hand turn twelve releases the drivers back onto the start/finish straight.[1]
