Frederik Vesti Stamm (born 13 January 2002 in Vejle, Syddanmark, Denmark) is a Danish racing driver who served as a test driver for Mahindra Racing during the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the 2024 Rookie Test.[1] An FIA Formula 2 Championship race winner and Mercedes F1 reserve driver, Vesti's FE debut would come at the Rookie Test in Berlin, which would see the Danish racer set the seventh fastest time of the session.[2]
Background[]
Beginning his career in karting at the age of eight, Vesti would claim several national titles in his native Denmark, before stepping up to single-seaters in 2016.[3] Entering Formula Ford Denmark, Vesti would secure fourth in the championship in his rookie campaign, prompting Vesti to complete a second season in 2017, alongside a run in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship.[3] Vesti would ultimately finish as runner-up in the Danish version, having skipped two rounds, while also running to seventh in the ADAC version.[3]
Quiet Progress: 2018 - 2023[]
Vesti remained at F4 level for the 2018 season, claiming fourth in ADAC F4 while also making a winning cameo in the Italian version.[3] 2018 also saw Vesti make his debut in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, as well as make his debut at the Macau Grand Prix.[3] For 2019 Vesti moved up to the Formula Regional European Championship, and would go on to win that title having won thirteen of the twenty-four races.[3]
In 2020 Vesti secured a drive in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, with an impressive rookie season seeing him claim three wins and fourth in the title hunt.[3] That campaign also earned him a second season in F3 and a spot on the Mercedes Junior Team for the 2021 season, with a move to ART Grand Prix seeing him again finish in fourth after a mid-season title bid.[3][4] For 2022 Vesti would earn a promotion to the FIA Formula 2 Championship as the leading driver in Mercedes' young driver programme, although hopes of a debut title bid soon faded and the Danish pilot ended the season in ninth with one victory.[3]
2023 saw Vesti remain as an F2 pilot as well as sign a deal to serve as Mercedes' test and reserve driver in Formula One, with Vesti mounting a sustained but ultimately unsuccessful title bid, defeated by Théo Pourchaire by nine points come the end of the campaign.[3]
Sportscars and Reservations: 2024 - Present[]
With Mercedes looking at other options from their driver development programme, Vesti would move to sportscar racing from 2024, entering the European Le Mans Series, finishing ninth, as well as other LMP2 level races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.[3] Vesti would move up to the GTP class in IMSA for 2025, becoming a de facto factory driver for Cadillac alongside his duties for Mercedes as a test and reserve driver in F1.[3]
Formula E History[]
Vesti was offered a chance to sample a Mahindra Racing car during the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, who signed the Danish racer to drive for them at the 2024 Rookie Test at the Tempelhofring.[1] Partnering Kush Maini for the day, Vesti would find himself marginally out-paced by his former F2 rival, although the Danish racer was still a respectable seventh fastest, less than three tenths off of the ultimate pace.[2]
