The Jaguar I-Type 7 is an all electric single-seater racing car developed by Jaguar Cars to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for both the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.[1] The seventh car developed by Jaguar for FE and an evolution of its Teams' and Manufacturers' Cup winning I-Type 6 and using the Spark Gen 3 Evo ruleset, the I-Type 7 would make a race winning debut at the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix.[1]
Competitive History[]
The I-Type 7 would be unveiled with a one-off livery ahead of the 2024 Jarama Test, before making its full race debut in Jaguar's established red-white-gold livery at the season opening round of the 2024/25 season at the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix.[2] Showing impressive pace, particularly when in Attack Mode, Mitch Evans would pilot his car to victory at the season opener, with the tactical use of AM and 4WD allowing the New Zealander to break through to the front of the field late on to claim victory.[3] Unfortunately after its impressive debut the car would subsequently suffer from a lack of outright pace in subsequent rounds, and was arguably the third or fourth fastest platform at the Mexico City and Jeddah rounds.[4]
Development History[]
Development of the I-Type 7 began partway through 2023, with Jaguar working with semi-conductor specialists Wolfspeed to re-engineer their inverters, while also focusing on a major overhaul of their software systems due to the advent of 4WD, the result of updates to the Generation 3 platform that resulted in the Gen 3 Evo ruleset.[1] The design would otherwise follow the I-Type 6's use of dual motors and a single-speed gearbox, and would run throughout 2024 as part of Jaguar's testing plan.[1] The car was subsequently launched ahead of its public debut at the 2024 Jarama Test, where Jaguar would lose a session's worth of running along with customers Envision Racing due to a penalty for overspending during the 2023/24 season.[5]
