The Jaguar I-Type V (officially known as the Jaguar I-Type 5) is an all electric single-seater racing car, developed by Jaguar and used by their factory supported Jaguar TCS Racing team in the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] Built around the base Spark SRT05e chassis, the I-Type V would debut at the start of the 2020/21 season, with Sam Bird and Mitch Evans piloting it to second in the Teams' Championship that season.[2]
Competitive History[]
The I-Type V would make its ABB FIA Formula E Championship debut at the start of the 2020/21 season, when the series' two year homologation rule came into effect.[3] Piloted by Mitch Evans and Sam Bird, a pair of I-Type 5s would be fielded by Jaguar Racing for the campaign, with the car's race debut coming at the 2021 Diriyah E-Prix I at the start of the season.[3]
Development History[]
The I-Type V was an evolution of Jaguar's previous FE car, the Jaguar I-Type IV, with the new powertrain focused on lightening key components and use of different materials in order to increase efficiency.[4] The inverter had undergone the biggest change, with the main components of the unit having been rebuilt using a new Silicone Carbide formula, while the main connectors within the unit were made from 24 carat gold universally for the first time.[4] The motor had been uprated too with refinements to the case and prop-shafts to make them lighter, while further weight gains were found by using a new race seat construction, using a sustainable material named Typefibres.[4]
