Julius Bär Group AG, alternatively known by the anglicised Julius Baer Group Ltd., is a Swiss private bank based in Zürich, Switzerland.[2] One of the largest financial groups in Switzerland, Julius Baer have interests in 20 countries, and have investments in a variety of markets.[2]
In terms of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship the Julius Baer group first announced that they would join the series as a global partner on the eve of the inaugural 2014 Beijing ePrix.[1] Various other deals were signed in subsequent seasons, extending the group's involvement with the series until 2020/21, with Julius Baer also becoming title sponsor of the 2018 Zürich E-Prix.[3]
Background[]
Formula E History[]
Julius Baer first became interested in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in the build-up to the inaugural 2014/15 season, entering negotiations with Formula E Holdings to become a sponsor.[1] A deal between the two was subsequently announced on the eve of the 2014 Beijing ePrix, with Julius Baer becoming a "global partner" of the series until the end of the 2018/19 season.[1] This deal was subsequently extended to the 2020/21 season midway through the contract, with Julius Baer's logos appearing on barriers, cars and advertising hoardings at every single ePrix.[4]
The Swiss group would also become involved in negotiating the repeal of a 60 year-old Swiss ban on motor racing, working alongside FE Holdings and TAG Heuer.[5] The resulting repeal saw FE given permission to host their first race in Switzerland, with Julius Baer becoming title sponsors of the first ever Zürich E-Prix.[3] Julius Baer would also sign a multi-year deal to be title sponsors of the "Swiss E-Prix", after Zürich was dropped from the 2018/19 calendar.[6]
Products[]
Julius Baer only provide investment and sponsorship for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, notably becoming title sponsor of the 2018 Zürich E-Prix during the 2017/18 season.[3]
