Léna Bühler (born 9 July 1997 in Valeyres-sous-Montagny, Vaud, Switzerland) is a Swiss racing driver who served as test driver for the Mahindra Racing team ahead of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A runner-up in F1 Academy, Bühler made her FE testing debut at the 2024 Jarama Test in a session aimed at getting female drivers track time in the series.[1]
Background[]
Bühler began her career in karting at the late age of 20, and would remain at the entry level of motorsport until 2020, when the Swiss racer secured a seat in the F4 Spanish Championship, claiming fifteenth with a handful of points finishes.[2] For 2021 Bühler made some minor history by becoming the first female driver to compete in the Formula Regional European Championship, although her season would be disrupted by an injury and ultimately saw her fail to score at all.[2] For 2022 Bühler combined runs in FR Europe with Formula Regional Asian Championship, but would again fail to score in either series, before stepping back to F4 level to race in the Formula 4 UAE Championship in 2023.[2]
Having failed to score in F4 UAE Bühler would get a boost by gaining a seat in the F1 Academy series for 2023, with Sauber signing her to their academy in order to enter the series.[2] A strong season in the inaugural F1 Academy season saw Bühler finish as runner-up to Marta García with two victories, before spending the 2024 season back in the FR European Championship, still with Sauber backing, although after another difficult campaign the Swiss racer would ultimately end her season early without points.[2]
Formula E History[]
Bühler was a late addition to the testing roster for the 2024 Jarama Test, as Mahindra Racing signed her to be their lone entrant in the women's only session during the test, which was the only pre-season test ahead of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] An impressive run saw Bühler set the fifth fastest time of the session, a second off the ultimate pace, having completed 36 tours of the Spanish circuit in her maiden sample of an FE car.[3]
