Linus Lundqvist (born 26 March 1999 in Tyresö, Stockholm County, Sweden) is a Swedish racing driver who served as a test driver for the Avalanche Andretti Formula E team during the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] The 2022 Indy Lights Champion, Lundqvist would get his first chance to sample an FE car at the 2023 Rookie Test, ultimately setting the fifteenth fastest time of the day.[2]

Background[]

Beginning in karting at the age of six, Lundqvist would compete in various series across Europe and win several titles, before entering the realm of single-seaters in 2015 with a drive in the Formula Renault 1.6 Nordic and NEZ Championships.[3] Finishing third in the latter, Lundqvist would get a sophomore campaign in both series in 2016, and duly claimed the titles in both with thirteen wins across eighteen total races, earning him a seat in the F4 British Championship for 2017.[3] Fifth in F4 British would subsequently lead to Lundqvist obtaining a cameo in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at the end of the season, setting the Swede up for a run to the British F3 title in 2018.[3]

American Dream: 2019 - Present[]

After rounding the winter of 2018-19 with a campaign in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship, Lunqvist obtained a full season seat in the Euroformula Open Championship in 2019, finishing fifth in his maiden campaign.[3] 2019 also saw Lunqvist head to the United States for the first time, making his Daytona 24 Hours debut in the GTD class in IMSA, prompting the Swede to move to the US full time in 2020 with a seat in the Formula Regional Americas Championship, the first significant rung on the "Road to Indy" ladder.[3] An excellent maiden season in the States saw Lundqvist dominate FRAC with fifteen wins to secure the title, earning him a seat in Indy Lights series in 2021.[3]

Three wins in Indy Lights saw Lundqvist finish third come the end of the end of the season, with a sophomore campaign in the series seeing Lundqvist secure the title with a comfortable margin, although it was not enough for the Swede to progress to the full IndyCar Series for 2023.[3] Instead, Lundqvist returned to Scandiavia for the 2023 season, competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia for the season.[3]

Formula E History[]

Lundqvist was linked with a first taste of an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship car during the 2022/23 season, shortly after the announcement that the series would stage a Rookie Test during the season.[1] The Avalanche Andretti Formula E squad would duly sign the Swedish youth to take part in the test alongside Zane Maloney, although Lundqvist would be unable to match the Barbadian's pace on the day, recording the fifteenth fastest time some six tenths slower than Maloney.[2]
