The Lola T001 is a an all electric, single-seater racing car, developed in partnership between Lola Cars and Yamaha to compete in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team.[1] The first powertrain developed by Lola for FE with its design largely created by Yamaha, the T001 would debut at the season opening 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix, with Lola combining the most experienced driver on the grid, Lucas di Grassi, with the least experienced in Zane Maloney.[2]
Competitive History[]
The T001 made its public testing debut at the 2024 Jarama Test, before making its full FE debut at the 2024/25 season opening round at the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix, where it qualified towards the back of the field in both Lucas di Grassi and Zane Maloney's hands.[2] The pair would then briefly run in the top ten amid the chaos before di Grassi hit trouble towards the end of the race, while Maloney ended the day in twelfth on the car's debut.[2] The two Lola T001s would again run towards the back of the field in Mexico City, before both cars required maintainence during the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix weekend that saw the team had to break the seals on the MGUs on both cars.[3]
Development History[]
Lola would surprise everyone in March 2024 by announcing that they would be entering the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, having launched a technical partnership with Yamaha to develop a powertrain for them to enter electric racing.[1] After agreeing another deal for ABT Sportsline to run their cars, the T001 would complete its first shakedown running in June 2024, with Yamaha believing that their motors in particular were around 95% efficient after the initial running.[4][5] The car would continue testing through to the end of the summer of 2024, before making a trouble free public test debut at the 2024 Jarama Test.[4]
