Lorenzo Savadori (born 4 April 1993 in Cesena, Italy) is an Italian motorcycle racer, who competes in the 2019 FIM MotoE World Cup with Trentino Gresini MotoE.[1] A former FIM Superstock 1000 Champion, Savadori came to MotoE from the realm of Superbike rather than MotoGP, having competed at World Championship level for several seasons.[2]
Background[]
Savadori began his career in his ultra competitive homeland of Italy, making a name for himself by winning the 125cc Italian and European Championships in 2008.[2] That, combined with finishing as runner-up in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2007, saw Savadori gain the backing of Aprilla, who catapulted the seventeen year old Italian into the 125cc World Championship for 2009.[2] Unfortunately in two full seasons in 125cc Savadori would not live up to his early promise, and was dropped.[2]
Super Saviour[]
For 2011 Savadori moved to the Superstock ladder, gaining a seat in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup.[2] Four seasons at European level saw Savadori claim the 2015 Cup title, with the Italian having also made a World Championship appearance in 2013.[2] Unsurprisingly Savadori's efforts in the 1000 Cup saw him gain a full Superbike World Championship ride in 2016, with the Italian joining the factory Aprilla squad.[2]
Savadori instantly proved to be a regular point scorer in World Superbike, although the Italian racer rarely threatened the podium.[2] Two further seasons saw Savadori continue that trend, with the Italian ultimately leaving the series at the end of 2018, having finished tenth in the Championship.[2]
MotoE History[]
Savadori was among the first riders to be named for the 2019 FIM MotoE World Cup, signing with the new series in November 2018.[1] The Italian rider was subsequently signed by the Trentino Gresini MotoE squad alongside Matteo Ferrari for the full campaign, although an inauspicious debut at the Sachsenring saw Savadori become the series' first retirement.[3] Savadori followed that up with a quiet run at the 2019 Austrian MotoE Race, claiming his first points of the campaign.[4]
