The Mahindra M7Electro (also known as the Mahindra M8Electro and the Mahindra M7Electro Evo2) is an all-electric racing car, constructed by Mahindra & Mahindra for use by their factory supported team Mahindra Racing in the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] Constructed in partnership with American-German component manufacturer ZF, the M7Electro would also serve as Mahindra's car for the 2020/21, claiming one victory at the 2021 London E-Prix II.[2]
Competitive History[]
The M7Electro made its debut at the start of the 2020/21 FIA Formula E World Championship, with the factory Mahindra Racing team fielding two cars for Alex Lynn and Alexander Sims at the 2021 Diriyah E-Prix I.[1]
Development History[]
The Mahindra M7Electro's development began with Mahindra signing a deal with ZF Friedrichshafen to design and develop their powertrains, having already worked with ZF on the previous Mahindra M6Electro to refine its rear-suspension design.[3] As a result, the ZF engineers would completely redesign the powertrain from the M6Electro, supplying new silicon carbide based components for the inverters as well as a new motor and transmission designs, which were intended to increase efficiency and reduce weight.[4] Mahindra would also form a partnership with Shell to supply lubricants and fluids for their M7Electros during its development, with the M7Electro completing its first shakedown in August 2020.[5]
