Manuel Cabrera (born 20 October 2000) is a Mexican racing driver, who competed in the 2019/20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series, completing one race for Jaguar China Racing.[1] A Formula PANAM Champion, Cabrera would retire from his only eTrophy appearance, meaning he would end the 2019/20 season in last in the Pro Championship.[2]
Background[]
Cabrera began his career in karting, racing in his native Mexico until the 2017 season, when the Mexican youth moved into single seaters.[3] Entering Fórmula PANAM and the Formula Masters Asian Series, Cabrera would claim the PANAM title with one win in five races, while also securing ninth in the Asian Series.[3] Cabrera then prepared for his 2018 season with two appearances in the 2017/18 FIA Fórmula 4 Nacam Championship, before running to 22nd in the USF2000 Championship.[3]
Cabrera spent a second season in the USF2000 Championship in 2019, again finishing 22nd after five appearances.[3]
eTrophy History[]
Cabrera would get the chance to enter the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series during the 2019/20 season, when Jaguar China Racing offered him a chance to drive at the 2020 Mexico City eTrophy Race.[1] Entering the Pro class in the #9 car, the first time that Jaguar China had entered the senior class, Cabrera would suffer a miserable debut, a kerb strike causing him to suffer a puncture that ultimately led to his retirement.[2] With that, Cabrera would not race in the eTrophy again, with the #9 car being occupied by Nick Foster for the rest of the season.[2]
