Marta García López (born 9 August 2000 in Dénia, Alicante, Spain) is a Spanish racing driver who served as a test driver for the Porsche Formula E Team during the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] The inaugural F1 Academy Champion, García would initially get her first taste of FE with the ERT Formula E Team at the 2024 Rookie Test, before making her second appearance for Porsche at the 2024 Jarama Test.[1]
Background[]
García began her career in karting, before graduating to single-seaters in 2016 with a seat in the F4 Spanish Championship, although the Spanish youth would not be eligible for points as she was a wildcard entry.[2] Returning for a full campaign in 2017, García would end the season in ninth in the Championship having been a regular point scorer, while also making a cameo in the SMP F4 Championship.[2] Sitting out 2018 and returning to karting, García would enter the inaugural season of the W Series for 2019, claiming one win en-route to fourth in the Championship.[2]
Again missing a season, this time the result of the Covid-19 Pandemic, García returned to racing in 2021 when the W Series resumed, although she slipped to twelfth, before entering her third W Series campaign in 2022, jumping back to sixth but without adding to her win tally.[2] 2023 saw García secure a seat in F1 Academy which subsequently saw the Spanish racer complete her best season to date, claiming seven victories and the inaugural F1 Academy title.[2] For 2024 García would be rewarded with a funded seat in Formula Regional European Championship, although would end the season without points, while also claiming two victories in the Ligier European Series in the JS2 R class.[2]
Formula E History[]
García earned her first call up to drive an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship car ahead of the 2024 Rookie Test, when ERT signed her to test for them at the Tempelhofring for the all day test alongside compatriot Mikel Azcona.[3] Driving Sérgio Sette Câmara's #3 ERT X24 for the day, García would end her FE test debut a couple of tenths down on her test teammate, 1.2 seconds off the ultimate pace.[4] García would return to her other 2024 commitments, before being called up by the Porsche Formula E Team ahead of the 2024/25 pre-season test at Jarama, where the young Spaniard worked alongside Gabriela Jílková for a session specifically for women drivers.[1]
García would end the Jarama Test as the eighth fastest driver in the field, 1.7 seconds off the ultimate pace, but as the fastest of the drivers using a Porsche powertrain at the Spanish circuit.[5]
