Mitsunori Takaboshi (born 24 January 1993 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese racing driver who works as the test and reserve driver for Nissan e.Dams in the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship.[1] A former Champion of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship, Takaboshi joined the e.Dams FE team as a factory Nissan driver.[2]
Background[]
Takaboshi's career began in karting in 2007, with the Japanese racer duly climbing through the ranks to debut in single seaters in 2010.[3] That year, Takaboshi would compete in the Formula Challenge Japan, although it would take the Japanese racer until 2012 to finally claim a win.[3] Indeed, that season would see Takaboshi place third overall, earning himself a seat in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship for 2013.[3]
Japanese Jive[]
While Takaboshi only just scraped into the top ten in the Japanese F3 Championship, he would win the title in the National Class, winning all bar four of the fifteen races.[3] 2014 saw the Japanese racer finish third in both classes, before claiming two victories in the GT300 class of Super GT in 2015.[2] 2016 saw Takaboshi earn a role as a factory driver with Nissan in Super GT and the Blancpain Endurance Series, although he failed to record a victory in any series.[3]
2017 proved to be Takaboshi's best, with the Japanese racer claiming the crown in the Japanese F3 Championship, alongside a series of strong runs in Super GT.[3] 2018 saw Takaboshi move to the top GT500 class in Super GT, although the new Nissan GT-R ultimately lacked the reliability to challenge for the title.[3]
Formula E History[]
Takaboshi would get his run in an ABB FIA Formula E Championship car during the 2017/18 season, taking part in the 2018 Rookie Test with Renault e.Dams.[4] The Japanese racer ultimately ended the day in the lower half of the field on out-right pace, but was still assessed for a seat with e.Dams when Nissan took over the team ahead of the 2018/19 season.[1] The Japanese ace would subsequently land a seat as their test and reserve driver for the fifth FE season, while also getting a second run at the 2019 Rookie Test.[1]
