The NIO 333 ER9 is an all-electric, single-seater, racing car, developed by NIO in order to compete in the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with their factory supported NIO 333 Racing team.[1] Based on the Generation 3 ruleset introduced ahead of Season Nine, the 333 ER9 was the first "design" to be revealed after the announcement of the Gen 3 rulebook, after NIO had become the first manufacturer to commit to FE's third generation.[1]

Competitive History[]

The 333 ER9 was officially unveiled on the eve of the 2022 Valencia Test, and would run solidly in the midfield throughout the test, with Dan Ticktum and Sérgio Sette Câmara even briefly scaring the top ten during various stages of the test.[2] The car's race debut subsequently came at the 2023 Mexico City E-Prix, although the early test promise from Valencia was not repeated, with both Ticktum and Sette Câmara running at the back of the field and enduring quiet races well outside of the points.[3] It was a similar story in the first Diriyah E-Prix of the season, with neither 333 ER9 threatening the points, before a battling display from Ticktum in the 2023 Diriyah E-Prix II saw the Brit scrape the car's first point of the season, securing tenth place after a race long scrap in the lower end of the top ten.[4]

Development History[]

NIO were the first powertrain supplier to announce that they would be competing in the Generation 3 era of the FIA Formula E World Championship, and would be the first manufacturer to unveil their season nine powertrain, the 333 ER9.[5] The car began testing in May 2022, with NIO quickly becoming hopeful of moving up from the back of the field after a lot of early promise in their initial tests, conducted by Oliver Turvey and Dan Ticktum.[1]
