Nerea Martí (born 2 January 2002 in Albalat dels Sorells, Valencia, Spain) is a Spanish racing driver who tested for Andretti Formula E during the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A veteran of the F1 Academy series and its predecessor W Series, Martí would make her FE test debut at the 2024 Jarama Test, having been signed by Andretti to take part in the women's only test session.[1]
Background[]
Martí began her career in karting at the age of nine at her local karting circuit, owned by her father, before securing enough backing in 2019 to enter the F4 Spanish Championship, finishing her maiden single-seater season in sixteenth.[2] Missing the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Martí resumed racing in 2021 with an entry in the W Series, finishing fourth which would earn her the attention of BMW who put her in the GT Winter Series in her native Spain over the winter, ultimately finishing second with five victories.[2] 2022 saw Martí twin a sophomore campaign in W Series, finishing seventh, with a run to second in the D1 class of CER, before entering 2023 with deals to race in the Spanish GT Championship alongside a seat in the inaugural season of F1 Academy.[2]
That 2023 season saw Martí claiming a single victory en-route to fourth in F1 Academy, while also securing ninth in Spanish GT with BMW still employing her services.[2] 2024 saw Martí again focus on F1 Academy, where she again finished fourth but did not add to her win tally, while also finishing fourth in the Supercars Endurance Championship, and also making a brief mid-season cameo back in Spanish F4.[2] Towards the end of 2024 Martí headed to the US to compete in the NACAM Formula 4 Championship, taking one win on her debut weekend.[2]
Formula E History[]
Martí was signed alongside Chloe Chambers to the Andretti Formula E squad on the eve of the 2024 Jarama Test, as a result of the FIA and Formula E mandating that each team field at least one female driver at the 2024/25 pre-season test.[1] Taking over Nico Müller's car for the 3 hour women's only session during the test, Martí would set the thirteenth fastest time of the session, over a second faster than Chambers, as both focused on getting as many laps as possible of the Spanish circuit.[3]
