The Porsche 99X Electric (2020), officially known as the Porsche 99X Electric, is an all-electric single-seater racing car, built by Porsche which competes in the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] The second generation of the 99X Electric, the 99X Electric (2020) was introduced at the start of the 2020/21 campaign, with the aim of pushing Porsche to the head of the field.[2]
Competitive History[]
The 99X Electric (2020) would make its ABB FIA Formula E World Championship debut at the start of the 2020/21 season, with Porsche entering two examples of their design via their factory Porsche Formula E Team.[2] Piloted by André Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein, the 99X Electric (2020) began its campaign at the 2021 Diriyah E-Prix I, where Wehrlein would claim strong points in fifth having run in the fight for the podium throughout the race.[3]
Development History[]
An evolution of Porsche's original Formula E design, the 99X Electric (2019), the 2020 edition of the car featured various updates to the powertrain, including major revisions to the inverter and motor designs.[4] The Porsche team, under new-for-2020 Technical Project Leader Malte Huneke, would also experiment with a transverse design, although the German manufacturer opted to retain the original layout of the powertrain due to the potential loss of efficiency in turning the power output through 90°.[5]
