The Porsche 99X Electric Gen 3 Evo, otherwise officially entered as the Porsche 99X Electric, is an all-electric, single-seater racing car that was developed by Porsche to compete in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the factory Porsche Formula E Team and Andretti Formula E.[1] Based heavily on the championship winning Porsche 99X Electric Gen 3 and based on the Gen 3 Evo ruleset, the 99X Electric Gen 3 Evo was designed as an evolution of its predecessor in a bid to maintain Porsche's place as one of the top manufacturers in the series.[1]
Competitive History[]
The 99X Electric Gen 3 Evo made its competitive debut at the 2024/25 São Paulo E-Prix at the start of the 2024/25 season, and would see Pascal Wehrlein begin where he left off by claiming pole for the season opener.[2] Wehrlein and teammate António Félix da Costa would then run at the front of the field for the majority of the race, although after an accident for Wehrlein, da Costa was left to fight alone for the factory Porsches, and would be mugged late on by Mitch Evans due to the added power of Attack Mode.[2] Wehrlein and da Costa would then dominate qualifying for the 2025 Mexico City E-Prix by claiming a front-row lock-out, only for themselves and the Andretti Formula E racer Jake Dennis to dominate the race and then get duped again as Oliver Rowland used AM to charge through the trio.[3]
In Jeddah the car proved to be less competitive with Wehrlein finally defeated in qualifying, before all four cars struggled to feature at the front of either race, although Dennis would only narrowly missout on the podium in the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix II.[4]
Development History[]
Porsche would begin their design process for their Gen 3 Evo creation by analysing their double championship winning design for the first part of Gen 3, the Porsche 99X Electric Gen 3, and would begin while the latter was in the process of claiming its second driver's title in the hands of Pascal Wehrlein.[1] Porsche opted to base their Gen 3 Evo project around an evolution of their successful design, with the German manufacturer focusing on refining their design rather than a completely new powertrain setup, with elements like the inverters and rear suspension being the focus along with software.[1] The car would begin running in the Spring of 2024 and would prove to be much like its predecessor, with its one-lap pace particularly noticed by the development team.[1]
