The Puerto Madero Circuit, also unofficially known as the Buenos Aires Street Circuit, is a temporary street circuit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that hosted the FIA Formula E Championship three times between 2014/15 and 2016/17.[1][2] The only circuit used to host the Buenos Aires ePrix, the Puerto Madero Circuit would ultimately disappear from the calendar after the 2017/18 season, after Buenos Aires was dropped.[3]
Formula E History[]
The Puerto Madero Circuit was designed by Santiago García Remohí after Buenos Aires obtained a place on the 2014/15 FIA Formula E Championship calendar, and was duly unveiled in July 2014.[4] The new circuit would be formed in the Puerto Madero district of Buenos Aires, using streets around the docks on the Río de la Plata.[4] A twelve corner circuit covering 2.480 km (1.541 mi) was the result, with the FIA granting the circuit a Grade 3 licence.[4]
Circuit History[]
The Puerto Madero Circuit hosted the inaugural 2015 Buenos Aires ePrix on 10 January 2015, a race which was won by António Félix da Costa after a series of retirements for the pre-race favourites.[5] The circuit was unchanged for the 2016 race, won by Sam Bird, before hosting its third race in 2017, a battle won by Sébastien Buemi.[6][7] Puerto Madero had, by that stage, become the only circuit to host a race in each of the first three seasons of the FE, only to disappear from the calendar ahead of the 2017/18 season.[3]
Circuit Layout[]
A lap of the Puerto Madero Circuit opened with a wide left-hand corner, followed by an elongated right-left chicane.[4] That brought the field onto the starting straight, which would bring the field into the de jure first corner, a hairpin left.[4] The exit of the hairpin appeared in the form of turn two, a oblique right, before the field plunged into turn three, a long left-hand curve.[4]
From there the field charged down another straight, before hitting the brakes for turn four, a hairpin left that was preceded by a right-hand kink.[4] Another short straight followed to lead the field into turn five, a hairpin right, before an identical straight fed the drivers into turn six, a sharp left.[4] Another straight followed to bring the field into turn seven, a left-hand hairpin, before turns eight and nine formed a right-left chicane to bring the field back onto the finishing straight.[4]
Pit-in was found on the outside of turn eight, while pit-out was located on the outside of turn eleven.[4]
