Sérgio Jimenez (born 15 May 1984 in Piedade, Brazil) is a Brazilian racing driver, who competes in the 2018/19 FIA Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy with Jaguar Brazil Racing.[1] A veteran of various single seater and stock car series, Jimenez would be entered in the PRO section of the eTrophy field in 2018/19, partnering fellow Stock Car Brasil racer Cacá Bueno.[1]
Background[]
Jimenez's career began in karting at the age of 10, before the Brazilian racer moved into car racing in 2002.[2] It proved to be an excellent debut season for Jimenez, for the Brazilian would win the Formula Renault 2.0 Brazil series at the first attempt.[2] That earned the Brazilian a trip to Europe and the UK edition of the series, although a rather anonymous season saw Jimenez return to Brazil.[2]
A Karting Career?[]
Jimenez returned to racing karts in 2004, competing in various series across South America.[2] He subsequently attempted to revive his racing career in 2006, entering the Formula 3 Spain Championship, with a strong season seeing Jimenez claim fifth.[2] Sponsor backing would secure Jimenez a seat in the GP2 Series for 2007, although Jimenez's time in the Championship was over before the fifth race.[2]
Jimenez's next port-of-call proved to be the A1GP series in 2007/08, although Jimenez would only score one podium with Team Brazil.[2] Jimenez hence returned to karting in 2009, before opting to enter the Stock Car Copa Vicar series at the end of the season.[2] A move to GT racing followed in 2010, with Jimenez bouncing between various GT series through to 2017.[2]
In 2017 Jimenez would make the Stock Car Brasil Championship his permanent home, although a poor season left Jimenez well down the field.[2]
Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy History[]
Jimenez would be signed up by the Jaguar Racing Brazil team ahead of the 2018/19 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy season, getting his first taste of the car at a shakedown in the summer of 2018.[1] He duly partnered Cacá Bueno for the opening round in Ad Diriyah, where he would challenge Simon Evans for victory in a rain hit race.[3] Jimenez would ultimately end his eTrophy debut in second to Evans, having fended off a late challenge from Bryan Sellers.[3]
