Sacha Fenestraz Jules (born 28 July 1999 in Annecy, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France) is a French-Argentine racing driver, who serves as a test/reserve driver for Jaguar Racing during the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A veteran of various junior formulae, Fenestraz made his FE debut with Jaguar at the 2020 Rookie Test, before signing as their reserve driver on the eve of the 2020/21 season.[2]
Background[]
Fenestraz began his racing career in karting, racing in both his native France as well as Argentina having initially been raised in the South American nation.[3] In 2015 the Frenchman moved into single seaters, entering the French F4 Championship, resulting in an impressive run to second overall in his rookie season.[3] For 2016 Fenestraz entered the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, and would again impress in his rookie season as he claimed fifth in the Championship.[3]
Japanese Enticements: 2017 - 2021[]
2017 saw Fenestraz move to the title winning JKR team in FR 2.0, with the Frenchman duly going on to claim the championship title in his sophomore campaign.[3] 2017 would also see Fenestraz become a member of the Renault Sport Academy, while also seeing him debut in the Formula 3 European Championship.[3][4] European F3 would become Fenestraz's main programme for 2018, although while the Frenchman managed to claim one win, and make his debut in the GP3 Series, Fenestraz was dropped from the RSA at the end of the season.[3]
After failing to secure enough funding to obtain a seat in the new FIA Formula 3 Championship, Fenestraz moved to Japan to compete in the Japanese F3 Championship.[3] Eight wins saw Fenestraz become the first driver since Nick Cassidy to win the title in his rookie season, earning him a seat in both Super GT and Super Formula for 2020.[3] Fenestraz went on to claim fourth in the former series driving one of the factory GT500 Toyotas, while claiming thirteenth in Super Formula after claiming a podium on his debut.[3]
Formula E History[]
Fenestraz was invited to test for Jaguar Racing at the 2020 Rookie Test, the only in-season test staged as part of the 2019/20 FIA Formula E Championship.[2] Setting the tenth fastest time of the day, a quarter of a second fastest then test-teammate Jamie Chadwick, the Frenchman would go on to secure a test/reserve role with Jaguar for the 2020/21 season.[1]
