Tatiana Calderón Noguera (born 10 March 1993 in Bogotá, Capital District, Colombia) is a Colombian racing driver who served as a test driver for the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team during the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A veteran of the FIA Formula 2 Championship and IndyCar Series among many others, Calderón had initially driven an FE car during the 2018/19 season, testing for DS Techeetah, and had also featured for Maserati MSG Racing ahead of the 2024/25 season at the 2024 Jarama Test.[2]
Background[]
Calderón began her career in karting, becoming the first female driver to win a national karting series in both her native Colombia and the United States.[3] 2010 saw Calderón graduate to racing cars full time, joining the Star Mazda Championship in North America.[3] A quiet debut season saw Calderón claim five top-ten finishes, with the Colombian racer remaining in the series in 2011.[3]
European Dreams: 2012 - 2018[]
After becoming the first woman to finish on the podium in the Star Mazda Championship in 2011, Calderón moved to the European racing scene in 2012, gaining a seat in European F3 Open.[3] Ninth at the end of the season was enough for Calderón to secure a seat in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship for 2013, while she also secured a full season drive in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship.[3] Unfortunately for Calderón it was not a particularly impressive campaign in the former, although she did claim seventh in the British F3 Championship with a single podium finish.[3]
2014 saw Calderón split her time between the F3 European series and the Florida Winter Series, claiming one win in the latter.[3] Another pointless campaign in F3 followed in 2015, although Calderón did claim the runner-up spot in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 over the winter.[3] For 2016 Calderón made the GP3 Series her main focus of attention, although she also had drives in Euroformula Open and Spanish F3.[3]
The GP3 Series remained Calderón's main focus for 2017 and 2018, with the Colombian racer securing a handful of points finishes across the two seasons.[3]
Pinnacle Push: 2019 - 2022[]
In 2019 Calderón would make the step up to the FIA Formula 2 Championship alongside Anthoine Hubert, having also secured a deal to work as a test and development driver for Alfa Romeo in Formula One.[3] That F2 campaign ended without Calderón challenging the points scorers, prompting a change of tac in 2020 as Calderón instead secured a campaign in Super Formula, alongside runouts in the European Le Mans Series and IMSA SportsCar Championship, albeit without much success in any programme.[3] In 2021 Calderón would compete in Super Formula alongside a full campaign in the World Endurance Championship, also making her debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while again serving as a test driver in F1.[3]
In 2022 Calderón would opt to head to the US to race in the IndyCar Series, planned to be a full campaign with the exclusion of ovals, although after getting through halfway of the season the funding for Calderón's seat ran out and she sat out the rest of the season.[3] Instead, Calderón would make a surprise return to the F2 paddock to complete the season, although points would again elude the Colombian pilot.[3]
Sportscar Search: 2023 - Present[]
After her IndyCar change and return to F2 ultimately ended with a lack of funding, Calderón would opt to move away from single seaters and instead began searching for backing to fund a drive in the ELMS once again, securing a Pro-Am seat with Team Virage for the season, ending up sixteenth.[3] In 2024 Calderón moved to North America again to compete in the GTD class in IMSA, finishing 41st overall having only been able to take part in the Endurance rounds.[3]
Formula E History[]
Calderón would be approached to test for the DS Techeetah team ahead of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, with the Colombian racer offered a full day's running at the 2018 Ad Diriyah Test.[4] Completing an impressive run programme, Calderón would end up setting the sixteenth fastest time overall, quicker than André Lotterer, and was the second quickest of the female drivers taking part in the test.[5] Calderón would return for the Franco-Chinese alliance for the 2019 Rookie Test a few weeks later, setting a time good enough for sixth overall in the final classification despite losing the chance to drive in the afternoon session at the test after issues with her teammate James Rossiter's car meant he took over the #36 Techeetah.[6]
Calderón had to wait until she got her next taste of an FE car, with the Stellantis group eventually reaching out to her ahead of the 2024/25 season, offering her a seat at the 2024 Jarama Test to drive for Maserati MSG Racing in the women's only test session.[2] Calderón would ultimately be outpaced by her temporary teammate Carrie Schreiner at the test, but would finish inside the top ten, before being given another FE drive later in the season, taking part in the Free Practice 0 session at the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix I which was given over to rookie drivers.[1] This time, however, Calderón would suit up to drive for the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team, and would again set the tenth fastest time although this was only enough to best the effort of FE debutante Alex Dunne.[7]
