Ugo Ugochukwu Orlandi (born 23 April 2007 in New York City, New York State, USA) is an American racing driver who served as a test driver for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team in the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] A McLaren Driver Development Programme driver and Euro 4 Championship Champion, Ugochukwu would make his FE testing debut at the 2024 Rookie Test, where he would set the seventeenth fastest time.[2]
Background[]
Ugochukwu began his career in karting in his native United States, although a move to Europe in his early teens saw Ugochukwu make a huge jump, winning the CIK-FIA Karting European Championship in 2020 amid other title charges in various series, and earned a spot in the McLaren Driver Development Programme.[3][4] In 2022 Ugochukwu would graduate to single-seaters at F4 level, entering the F4 British Championship where he would finish third after two wins, while also making several starts in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship and Italian F4 Championship.[3] For 2023 Ugochukwu would race in the Formula 4 UAE Championship, finishing third, Italian F4 and claim second, while also claiming the title in the Euro 4 Championship in what was an impressive campaign.[3]
A Future Pretender? 2024 - Present[]
For 2024 Ugochukwu would move into the Formula Regional European Championship, ending the season in eleventh, having started the season with a run to seventh in the sister Middle East series.[3] Ugochukwu woujld also race in the GB3 Championship and would win the Macau Grand Prix at his second attempt, earning him a move to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for 2025.[3]
Formula E History[]
Ugochukwu was able to get his first taste of an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship car through his connections as a McLaren supported driver, who offered him a seat at the 2024 Rookie Test with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team.[1] Driving the #8 car of Sam Bird for the day, Ugochukwu would set the seventeenth fastest time of the day, just a couple of tenths slower than testing teammate Grégoire Saucy after a full day of running.[2]
