Victor Martins (born 16 June 2001 in Quincy-sous-Sénart, Île-de-France, France) is a French-Portuguese racing driver, who served as a test driver for the Nissan Formula E Team during the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.[1] The 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship Champion, Martins was offered his FE debut by Nissan at the 2023 Rookie Test, where the Frenchman would set the second fastest time behind then reigning FIA F2 Champion Felipe Drugovich.[2]

Background[]

Martins' career began in karting in his native France, with the French-Portuguese pilot winning various national titles before rounding out the 2016 season with the CIK-FIA World Championship title.[3] The 2016 season also saw Martins make his single-seater debut, competing as a guest in the French F4 Championship, before the Frenchman moved into that series full time in 2017 and duly finished the campaign as runner-up in his rookie season.[3] That earned Martins the attention of the Renault Sport Academy, who signed him up in early 2018, with Martins moving into the Formula Renault Eurocup and NEC for the year with Renault backing.[3]

Renault's Next Hope: 2018 - Present[]

Martins' rookie FR season saw him claim fifth and sixth in the Eurocup and NEC respectively, before the Frenchman claimed second in the former series in 2019 behind Oscar Piastri, having also competed in part of the F3 Asian Winter Series.[3] 2020 saw Martins complete a third campaign in FR Eurocup, where the Frenchman duly won the title at a canter, earning him a promotion to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for 2021.[3] One win and fifth overall would result for Martins from his rookie FIA F3 campaign, securing the Frenchman a second season and move to ART Grand Prix for 2022, which saw Martins duly secure the title at the second attempt, defeating Zane Maloney and Oliver Bearman on the final day of the season.[3]

2023 would see Martins graduate to the FIA Formula 2 Championship following his FIA F3 triumph, with the Frenchman also getting his first taste of Formula One in a private test with Alpine.[3]

Formula E History[]

Martins got his first taste of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship during the 2022/23 season, when the Frenchman was offered a seat at the 2023 Rookie Test by the Nissan Formula E Team.[1] Partnered by FIA Formula 2 Championship veteran Luca Ghiotto for the day, Martins would run at the front throughout, completing 101 laps of the Tempelhofring and setting the second fastest time overall, a tenth and a half quicker than temporary teammate Ghiotto.[2]
